This case example describes a community coalition
in New Haven, Connecticut, organized to fight alcohol and other
drug abuse.
After watching the video, please consider the following
questions and post your answers on the Message
Board:
- In New Haven, you saw what can happen when a community
comes together to take ownership of and then act on a problem.
What steps did the New Haven community take to apply collaboration
as an effective strategy?
- Do you think this approach might work in your
own community? Why, or why not?
- Can you describe an important issue in your community
and a way that one of the collaboration strategies could be (or
has been) used to address it? (Please specify the type of strategy
used, i.e., coalition building, interagency, or intra-agency.)
After you have answered the questions, please review and respond to the comments
made by your fellow participants. Do you agree with their responses? Disagree?
Need clarification? Post your feedback to the Message
Board. Then come back and visit regularly—others may have posed
questions to you!
