Please insert into your computer the CD-ROM (Disc 1) you received from us and play the enforcement video. To read a copy of the video transcript, click on the print video icon.

This case example emphasizes the importance of addressing underage drinking violations: In Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Cambridge Prevention Coalition and the Cambridge License Commission worked to involve licensees in taking positive steps, rather than just paying a fine.

After watching the video, please consider the following questions and post your answers on the Message Board:

  1. In Cambridge, you saw a creative way that a community used enforcement to address underage drinking. Reflecting on the Cambridge example, what steps were key to the community’s use of enforcement as an effective strategy?

  2. Do you think this approach might work in your own community? Why, or why not?

  3. Can you describe an important issue in your community and a way that one of the enforcement strategies could be (or has been) used to address it?

After you have answered the questions, please review and respond to the comments made by your fellow participants. Do you agree with their responses? Disagree? Need clarification? Post your feedback to the Message Board. Then come back and visit regularly—others may have posed questions to you!

You have completed your work for today.
Tomorrow, please proceed to Module 4: Communications.
